Measurements
HxGN Smart Sites allows users to make measurements on the publications they are working with. To do so, the measurements button (the second button from the left menu) should be pressed. Doing so will open the Measurements Panel.
Creating a measurement
There are three types of measurements that can be created by clicking on the corresponding buttons:
Distance Measurement
Distance measurements are used to measure the distance between multiple points on the map. To create a distance measurement:
- Press the New Distance Measurement button.
- Click on points on the map between which you would like to make measurements for.
- The minimum number of clicks to make a measurements is one single click. The maximum number depends on the measurement that is to be made.
- Once the desired points between which measurements is to be made are all covered, double click to end the creation of the measurement.
The measurement will then be automatically added to the measurements list on the Measurements Panel.
Area Measurement
Area measurements are used to measure an area. Using them the following values can be measured:
- The distance/length of all sides of the polygon that the area is defined by
- The surface area of the polygon
- The perimeter of the polygon
To create an Area Measurement:
- Click the New Area Measurement button.
- Click on points on the map for which a measurements is to be made.
- The minimum number of clicks to make a measurements is three. The maximum number depends on the measurement that is to be made by the user. Once the desired polygon is created, double click for the last point to end the creation of the measurement.
The measurement will then be automatically added to the measurements list on the Measurements Panel.
Orthogonal Measurement
Orthogonal measurements are used to measure the height of a certain point/structure. As their purpose it to measure heights, they are only available when the map is in 3D mode. Using them the following values can be measured:
- The distance/length between the two points the measurement is defined by
- The height of the second point in the measurement
- The width defined as the 2D distance between the two points the measurement is defined by
To create an Orthogonal Measurement:
- Click on the map on one initial point (at altitude zero).
- Click on a second point to which the orthogonal measurement is to be made.
The measurement will then be automatically added to the measurements list on the Measurements Panel.
Measurements List
The measurements list displays all the measurements that are made by the user. Measurements are not specific to publications or workspaces. They are stored in browser cache and are not persisted to a database. Therefor using a different browser or cleaning browser caches will remove all previously made measurements.
Using the measurements panel, the following actions can be performed:
- Search
Using the Search by name field of the Measurements panel, measurements can be filtered by name. - Viewing measurement details
Clicking on the information button under the name of a measurement displays details for that measurement. - Fitting on measurements
Clicking on the fit button for a measurement will fit the map onto the measurement. - Deleting measurements
Clicking on the delete button permanently deletes a measurement.
